Recreating a Thrash Metal Masterpiece
Originally released on Megadeth’s legendary 1986 album Peace Sells… but Who’s Buying?, “Wake Up Dead” is notorious among metal guitarists for its complex structure, rapid tempo shifts, and lethal leads.
Taking on Dave Mustaine and Chris Poland’s iconic tracks on the Holy Ground of Wacken Open Air is no easy task. MEGALIVE locked in every single detail.
What Makes “Wake Up Dead” a Fan Favorite?
- “Wake Up Dead” is famous for skipping a traditional verse-chorus-verse pop structure in favor of a relentless 3-minute, 40-second barrage of changing riffs.
- The song tells a dark, tongue-in-cheek story written by Dave Mustaine about sneaking back into his home late at night.
- It remains a staple opener and fan favorite in thrash history, widely recognized for having one of the greatest closing riff sections in metal.
